This article explains how to use the Summarise Files feature within the IPR module to generate AI-powered summaries of documents attached to a copyright.
Context
Copyright files often include lengthy documents — scrutiny notices, defect letters, examination correspondence, and official communications. Legistify AI's Summarise Files feature lets you select any document from a copyright's file and receive a clear, structured summary of its content in seconds, saving significant time during review.
How to Summarise Copyright Files
Step 1: Go to the Copyright Section
From the left-hand navigation bar, click on Copyright.
Step 2: Find the Relevant Copyright
On the copyright listing page, locate the copyright whose documents you want to summarise. Use the search bar or scroll through the list to find it.
Step 3: Open the Copyright Details Page
Click on the copyright to open its details page.
Step 4: Access the Legistify AI Panel
The Legistify AI panel is on the right side of the copyright details page. Click on the Summarise Files button at the top of the panel.
Step 5: Select the Document to Summarise
A list of documents attached to the copyright will appear. Select the file you want to summarise.
Step 6: View the Generated Summary
Legistify AI will process the selected document and display a clear, structured summary on screen based on the content of the file.
Understanding Your AI-Generated Document Summary
The summary provides a structured overview of the selected document. While the exact sections will vary based on the document type, you can expect the following:
Key Facts — The most important factual information contained in the document.
Legal Arguments or Observations — A summary of any legal points, defects, or observations raised.
Parties Involved — Names of relevant parties mentioned in the document.
Central Issue — The main subject or matter addressed in the document.
Relevant Dates — Any significant dates referenced within the file.
Additional Features
Regenerate Summary
Click Regenerate Summary to re-run the summary for the same document. This is useful if you feel the initial summary did not capture a key detail.
Download
Click Download to export the summary as a PDF for offline use or to share with colleagues or clients.
