Overview
Legistify supports DSC-based eSignatures, which allow authorised signatories to sign contracts using a physical USB DSC token. This method uses the Vsigner application, a lightweight desktop service developed by Verasys Limited that acts as a bridge between your DSC token and the Legistify signing portal.
DSC token signing is a legally valid form of electronic signature under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and is commonly used for high-value or compliance-sensitive contracts.
To complete a DSC signing, you need:
A valid DSC USB token (Class 3 certificate)
The Vsigner application installed on your computer
Access to the signing link sent to your registered email address
If Vsigner is not yet installed on your computer, this article walks you through the full process, from installation to successfully submitting your signature.
Step 1: Open the Signing Link
When a document is sent to you for DSC signing, you will receive an email notification from Legistify.
Open the email and click the signing link.
The Legistify signing portal (sign.legistify.com) will open in your browser.
The left panel displays the full document for your review.
The right panel shows the following document details:
Document name
Date requested and request expiry date
Requested by
Signer name and email address
A note to ensure your DSC USB token is connected and the Vsigner application is running
Scroll through the document to review the contents before signing.
Once ready, click Sign with DSC Token at the bottom of the page.
Step 2: Download and Install Vsigner
After clicking Sign with DSC Token, if Vsigner is not detected on your computer, the DSC Signing Wizard will open automatically.
The wizard shows three steps that need to be completed:
Connect Token device
Install token drivers
Creating signature for document
Follow the steps below to install Vsigner.
2a: Download the Installer
Click Download Vsigner in the wizard.
The file VsignerInstaller.exe will be downloaded to your computer.
Once the download is complete, locate the file in your Downloads folder.
2b: Handle the Windows SmartScreen Warning
When you run the installer, Windows may display a SmartScreen warning that says "Windows protected your PC."
This warning appears because the installer is not yet widely recognised by Windows Defender. The application is safe and published by Verasys Limited.
Click More info on the SmartScreen prompt.
The publisher details will appear. You will see the app is listed as Vsigner2.0.exe published by Verasys Limited.
Click Run anyway to proceed.
2c: Approve the UAC Prompt
A User Account Control (UAC) prompt will appear asking: "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"
App: Vsigner Setup
Verified publisher: Verasys Limited
Click Yes to allow the installation to proceed.
2d: Complete the Setup Wizard
The Vsigner Setup Wizard will open.
1. On the Information screen, read the setup notes. The screen confirms that setup requires administrator rights. Click Next.
2. On the Select Destination Location screen, the default installation path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Vsigner. At least 214.8 MB of free disk space is required. Click Next to accept the default location, or click Browse to choose a different folder.
3. On the Select Additional Tasks screen, you can choose whether to create a desktop shortcut for Vsigner. This is ticked by default. Click Next.
4. On the Ready to Install screen, review your selected settings:
Destination location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Vsigner
Additional shortcuts: Create a desktop shortcut
5. Click Install to begin the installation.
6. Installation will run automatically. Once complete, a final screen will confirm: Completing the Vsigner Setup Wizard. Click Finish.
Note: After installation, a message may appear advising you to start the application when the system restarts. You do not need to restart your computer. You can open Vsigner manually right away, as described in the next step.
Step 3: Start the Vsigner Application
Once installed, you need to open and run Vsigner so it can communicate with the signing portal.
1. Click the Start button or press the Windows key on your keyboard.
2. Type vs in the search bar. Vsigner will appear under Best match.
3. Click Open, or right-click and select Run as administrator for best results.
4. The Vsign Service window will open and display the message: Service started successfully 2.0
5. Click Minimise to keep Vsigner running in the background. Do not close this window, as it needs to remain active for the signing process to work.
Step 4: Connect to the Signing Portal
1. Return to the Legistify signing portal tab in your browser.
2. A browser permission prompt will appear from sign.legistify.com asking to access other apps and services on your device. Click Allow to grant the portal access to the Vsigner application.
3. The page will display Connecting to Vsigner application… while the connection is being established.
4. Once the connection is successful, the Vsign Service dialog will appear in front of the browser, listing your available DSC certificate with the following details:
Serial number
Issued to
Issued by
Expiry date
5. Select your certificate from the list by clicking on it.
6. Click Submit to proceed.
Step 5: Enter Your DSC PIN
After selecting your certificate, a PIN prompt will appear.
In the Enter User PIN dialog, enter your DSC token PIN in the field provided.
Note that the PIN must be between 6 and 32 characters in length.
Click OK to confirm.
Note: Your DSC PIN is set by your token provider at the time of issuance. If you have forgotten your PIN or your token is locked, contact your DSC token provider directly. Legistify does not store or manage DSC PINs.
Step 6: Confirm and Complete Signing
1. After entering the correct PIN, the DSC Signing Wizard will update to show: Vsigner detected! Proceeding to sign…
2. The signature will be applied to the document automatically.
3. Once complete, you will be redirected to a confirmation page that states: Your signature has been submitted.
4. The following actions are completed automatically at this point:
A certified PDF of the signed document is sent to your registered email inbox.
An audit trail is generated, capturing timestamps, IP address records, and signer details.
All parties involved in the document are notified with a copy of the signed document.
Conclusion
DSC token signing on Legistify provides a secure, legally valid way to execute contracts electronically. Once Vsigner is installed and your token is connected, the signing process takes only a few steps. If you face any issues, such as Vsigner failing to connect, your certificate not appearing, or the portal not detecting your token, ensure the USB token is properly inserted, the Vsigner service window is open and running, and that you have clicked Allow on the browser permission prompt before retrying.
