Overview
Monitor Agent is a feature in Notice Codex that keeps you updated on topics you care about. Instead of searching for developments yourself every day, you create a monitor for a topic and receive relevant updates by email and in Codex whenever something changes.
For example, you can create a monitor for “Supreme Court’s extraordinary powers under Article 142” and let Codex keep track of it for you.
How to Access Monitor Agent
Click Codex in the left-hand navigation bar.
Click Monitor Agent below the prompt bar. You can also click the + icon in the prompt bar and select Monitor Agent.
The Monitor Agent panel opens on the right side of the screen.
Creating a New Monitor
In the Monitor Agent panel, click New Monitor at the bottom of the panel.
In the topic field, describe in plain language what you want to track. You do not need Boolean search syntax or legal codes. For example: “Tell me when any of our top 40 vendors is added to a sanctions list”.
Under How Should I Watch It?, choose an update mode:
Stream: you receive an update every day, whether or not there has been a change in the topic.
Snapshot: you receive an update only when there is a meaningful change or new development related to the topic.
Under How Often?, choose how often Codex checks the topic: Hourly (every hour), Daily (once a day), or Weekly (once a week).
Under Followers, select the team members you want to add to the monitor.
Click Start Monitoring.
Viewing a Monitor and Its Updates
Click a monitor in the Monitor Agent panel to open it. The top of the monitor shows:
The topic you are tracking
The update mode (Stream or Snapshot) and how often it runs
The name of the person who set it up
How long ago it was created
The number of followers
Below this, the Activity list shows each update with a headline, the date, and a short summary. Click View All to see the full history. This opens the full Changes Found view. The newest updates appear first.
Managing Your Monitors
All your monitors are listed in the Monitor Agent panel. Each entry shows the topic, its status Active (green) or Cancelled (grey), the update mode, and how often it runs.
Use Find a Monitor to search for a monitor by name.
Use the filter icon to filter by Monitor Type, Frequency, or Status. Click Show Results to apply the filter, or Reset Filters to clear it.
Understanding Each Update
Each update shows:
A headline summarising the development
The date it was found
The number of sources behind it
Why This Matters: an explanation of why the development is relevant to your topic, with a confidence level
A numbered list of sources, so you can read the original content
Update Modes Explained
Stream
Sends an update every day, whether or not there has been a change in the topic. Use it when you want a regular check-in on a topic.
Snapshot
Sends an update only when there is a meaningful change or new development related to the topic. Use it when you only want to hear about real changes.
Who Should Use Monitor Agent
Monitor Agent is useful for:
In-house legal counsel tracking court rulings and legal developments that affect their notices
Compliance teams monitoring regulatory changes and enforcement actions
Legal operations teams who want automated awareness across multiple topics without spending time on manual research
Best Practices
Describe your topic in plain language and be specific about what you want to track. The more specific the topic, the more relevant the updates.
Use Stream if you want a daily update even when nothing has changed, and Snapshot if you only want to hear when something meaningful changes.
Choose Daily for most topics, and Hourly only for time-sensitive matters.
Add the team members who need the updates as Followers.
Use the filter and search to keep track of your monitors as the list grows.
Open Why This Matters on an update to understand why it was flagged before you act on it.
Conclusion
Monitor Agent saves you from searching for updates manually. Create a monitor once, choose how and how often you want to hear about changes, and Notice Codex keeps you informed by email and in Codex.
