Overview
Monitor Agent is a feature within Legistify Codex that acts as a standing research assistant. Instead of manually searching for updates on legal topics every day, you define what you want to track and Monitor Agent continuously watches it for you, delivering sourced, AI-reasoned updates directly to you in Codex.
Whether you are tracking Supreme Court rulings, regulatory changes, sanctions list additions, or any other legal development, Monitor Agent keeps you informed automatically on the schedule you choose.
How to Access Monitor Agent
Click on Codex from the left-hand navigation bar.
At the bottom of the Codex interface, click Monitor Agent from the navigation bar.
The Monitor Agent panel opens on the right side of the screen.
Creating a New Monitor
Click Monitor Agent from the bottom navigation bar.
In the Monitor Agent panel, click the New Monitor option.
In the topic field, type in plain language what you want to track. You do not need Boolean search syntax or legal codes. Examples:
"Tell me when any of our top 40 vendors is added to a sanctions list"
"Supreme Court's latest cases, rulings, hearings, petitions, and major legal developments"
Under How Should I Watch It, choose a mode:
Stream — delivers each change as it lands. Best for high-priority topics where you want real-time awareness of every new development.
Snapshot — delivers one consolidated summary of what changed since the last check. Best for topics where you want a periodic digest rather than a continuous feed.
Under How Often, choose the frequency:
Hourly — checks for updates every hour
Daily — checks once a day
Weekly — checks once a week
Click Start Monitoring to activate the monitor.
Managing Your Monitors
All your monitors appear in a list inside the Monitor Agent panel. Each entry shows:
The topic title
The status — Active (green) or Cancelled (grey)
The delivery mode — Stream or Snapshot
The frequency — Daily, Hourly, or Weekly
Use the filter icon at the top right of the panel to filter your monitors by Monitor Type, Frequency, or Status. Click Show Results to apply filters or Reset Filters to clear them.
Use the Find a Monitor search bar to quickly locate a specific monitor by name.
Viewing Updates
Click on any monitor to open its activity feed. Each update entry shows:
Headline summary — a one-line description of the development
Date — when the development was detected
Source count — how many sources back the update
View More — expands the full detail of the update
Why This Matters — an AI-generated explanation of why the development is relevant to your monitor topic, along with a confidence level (e.g. Medium confidence)
Sources — a numbered list of cited sources with URLs so you can verify and read the original content
The feed is ordered newest first by default. Click View All to see the full activity history for a monitor.
Update Modes Explained
Stream
Delivers an update each time the Monitor Agent detects a new development related to your topic. Use this for topics where missing even a single development could matter, such as sanctions list changes or live court proceedings.
Snapshot
Delivers one summary of everything that changed since the last check. Use this for topics where you want a periodic overview rather than individual alerts, reducing noise for lower-priority tracking.
Who Should Use Monitor Agent
Monitor Agent is useful for:
In-house legal counsel tracking judicial decisions, regulatory updates, or legislative changes relevant to their industry
Compliance teams monitoring sanctions lists, enforcement actions, or policy developments
Legal operations teams who want automated awareness across multiple topics without dedicating manual research time each day
Best Practices
Write your topic in plain language describing exactly what you want to track — the more specific, the more relevant the updates.
Use Stream for high-priority topics and Snapshot for topics you want to review periodically.
Set Daily frequency for most topics; use Hourly only for time-sensitive matters.
Use the filter panel to manage and organise monitors as your list grows.
Click Why This Matters on each update to understand the AI's reasoning before acting on a development.
Conclusion
Monitor Agent removes the manual effort of staying on top of legal developments. By defining a topic once and letting Codex watch it continuously, legal and compliance teams receive sourced, reasoned updates on the schedule they choose — without daily research sweeps or the risk of missing something important.
