Overview
Legistify Codex is an AI-powered workspace designed to help legal and business teams work faster with contracts.
With Codex, you can ask questions, draft agreements, analyse risks, and extract insights from contracts using natural language prompts.
Instead of switching between multiple tools, Codex allows you to perform drafting, contract review, compliance checks, and obligation tracking from one place within the platform.
How to Access Codex
To start using Codex:
1. Open the Contract Management Tool.
2. From the left navigation panel, click Codex.
3. The Codex workspace will open where you can enter prompts and interact with the AI assistant.
You will see a prompt field labeled “Enter a prompt for Codex”, where you can type your request or question.
Getting to Know the Codex Interface
When you open Codex, you will see a prompt bar at the centre of the screen. The + icon on the left side of the prompt bar is your main menu for all Codex actions, including Upload Files, Connectors, Use Style, Create Project, and Select Project. The hamburger menu (three lines icon) to the right of the + icon opens a side panel where you can access New Chat, Projects, and Recent Chats. The model selector in the bottom right of the prompt bar lets you switch between AI models.
How to Use Codex
Using Codex is simple and works like a conversational AI interface.
Step 1: Enter a Prompt
Type your question or request in the prompt field.
For example:
Draft a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
Summarise the key commercial terms of this contract
Identify high-risk clauses in this agreement
Then click Send to generate a response.
Step 2: Review the AI Response
Codex will generate a response based on your prompt.
This may include:
Drafted legal clauses or agreements
Contract summaries
Risk assessments
Extracted obligations or key terms
You can refine your request by asking follow-up questions or modifying your prompt.
Suggested Prompts
Codex also provides Suggested Questions to help you get started quickly. These prompts are grouped based on common legal workflows.
Drafting & Clauses
Examples include:
Draft a Mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) suitable for sharing confidential business information
Draft a “Termination for Convenience” clause that protects the service provider
Write a well-balanced “Indemnity” clause for a SaaS agreement
Draft payment terms with milestone-based billing and late payment interest
These prompts help generate ready-to-use contract language.
Contract Review
Codex can help review contracts and identify potential issues.
Examples include:
Summarise the key commercial and legal terms of this contract
Identify high-risk clauses in this agreement from our company’s perspective
List all obligations assigned to our company under this contract
Highlight any missing clauses that are typically included in similar agreements
This allows you to quickly understand the key elements of a contract.
Risk & Compliance
Codex can assist in identifying compliance risks and regulatory considerations.
Examples include:
Assess whether this contract complies with the Indian Contract Act requirements
Identify liability exposure under the “Limitation of Liability” clause
Check whether the agreement includes adequate data protection and DPDP compliance safeguards
Analyse whether the indemnity clause is one-sided or commercially reasonable
These insights help legal teams assess risk more efficiently.
Obligations & Deadlines
Codex can also help extract key timelines and responsibilities from contracts.
Examples include:
Extract all payment deadlines and financial obligations from this contract
Create a timeline of key milestones, deliverables, and renewal dates
List all notice period requirements mentioned in this agreement
Identify auto-renewal and escalation clauses in the contract
This makes it easier to track commitments and deadlines.
Attaching Documents
Click the + icon in the prompt bar.
Select Upload Files from the menu.
Choose the file you want to attach.
Type your instruction and submit the prompt.
Codex will analyse the document content alongside your prompt and generate a response based on the actual file. You can upload contracts, agreements, or clauses for review, extraction, and analysis.
Connectors
Connectors allow you to link your entire contract database directly to the Codex chat. Instead of uploading individual files, you connect your existing contract records from within the platform and Codex works with that data in context.
How to use Connectors
Click the + icon in the prompt bar.
Select Connectors from the menu.
Choose My Contracts to connect your contract records from the Contract Management module.
Once connected, enter your prompt. Codex will reference your contract database when generating a response.
Use Style
Use Style lets you control the tone and format of Codex's responses for the current session.
Click the + icon in the prompt bar.
Select Use Style from the menu.
Choose from the available options.

Artifacts
When you submit a drafting request, Codex generates a response with an Open button. Clicking it opens the draft as a formatted, editable document in the Artifact panel alongside the chat. For a full walkthrough, refer to the Codex Artifacts (Contract Management Tool) article.
Chat History
Every conversation in Codex is automatically saved. Click the hamburger menu in the prompt bar and select Recent Chats to view and reopen past conversations. Chats run inside a project will show the project name tagged alongside them.
Best Practices for Using Codex
To get the best results from Codex:
Be specific — the more context you provide, the more relevant the output.
Include details about the contract type, jurisdiction, or purpose where applicable.
Give Codex a role or perspective: "Review this from the buyer's perspective."
Use follow-up questions to narrow down or refine a response.
If the output is not right, try switching to a different model.
For recurring contract workflows, use Projects so you do not have to repeat context each time.
Always upload the actual document rather than describing it.
Important Note
Codex is designed to assist legal professionals, not replace legal judgment.
AI-generated outputs should always be reviewed by a qualified professional before being used in contracts or legal documents.
Conclusion
Legistify Codex brings AI-powered assistance directly into your Contract Management workflow. From drafting clauses and reviewing agreements to identifying risks and extracting obligations, Codex helps legal teams work faster and make more informed decisions.
By combining powerful AI models with an intuitive prompt-based interface, Codex enables you to analyse contracts, generate legal content, and uncover insights — all from one workspace within the platform.
