Overview
Legacy Contracts allow you to upload and manage contracts that have already been executed outside the platform. These contracts may exist as PDFs or scanned documents and need to be stored for reference, tracking, and compliance purposes.
Legistify offers two ways to upload legacy contracts:
Manual Legacy Contract β where you upload the document and manually fill in all required details
Legacy Contract (AI-based) β where you upload the document and the system automatically extracts key details and meta fields
Both methods ensure that executed contracts are stored in a structured, searchable, and manageable format within the Repository.
Option 1: Initiating a Legacy Contract (Manual)
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Start a New Contract
Navigate to the left-hand menu and click on New
From the available options, select Legacy Contract (Manual)
Step 2: Select the Contract Type
Use the Select Contract Type dropdown to choose the relevant contract template
(for example: NDA, MSA, Service Agreement, or other predefined templates)The selected contract type determines the structure of the form that will open next
Step 3: Upload the Executed Contract and Fill in Details (Meta Fields)
Once the contract type is selected, a custom form opens
In the same screen, you will see the option to upload the executed contract file
Upload the document in the designated upload section (supported formats and size limits are displayed on screen)
The form is generated based on the selected contract template and captures all essential contract information
The fields may differ depending on whether the contract is an NDA, MSA, or another agreement
Key things to know about the meta fields:
Each field is clearly labelled to indicate the required information
Mandatory fields are marked and must be completed before submission
Help icons are available on certain fields for additional guidance
You must manually enter all key contract details such as:
Contract name and validity dates
Party and counterparty details
Signatory information
Template-specific information

Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Start a New Contract

Step 4: Automatic Extraction of Contract Details

Maps the extracted information to the selected contract template
This removes the need for manual data entry and significantly reduces effort and time
Step 5: Review and Store the Contract
Review the extracted details to ensure accuracy
Make edits if required
Submit the contract to store it in the Repository, where it becomes available for search, tracking, and management
Conclusion
Legacy Contracts ensure that already executed agreements are not lost or stored in unstructured folders. Whether you choose the manual method for full control or the AI-based method for speed and automation, both workflows help you centralize contracts, maintain consistency, and improve visibility across your legal repository.
