Overview
The Protect section within the IPR module gives you a set of tools to identify trademarks that may conflict with your own. Using keyword, phonetic, and image-based matching, it surfaces potential threat marks from recently filed applications and journal publications so you can take timely action.
Accessing the Protect Section
From the Trademark section, click the Protect tab in the navigation bar at the top. The count next to the tab shows the total number of potential threat marks currently identified.
Filter Tabs
At the top of the Protect section, a set of filter tabs lets you control which results are shown.
Keyword — shows trademarks that match or closely resemble your mark based on keyword similarity.
Phonetic — shows trademarks that sound similar to yours, even if spelled differently.
Image-Image — shows trademarks whose logo or image is visually similar to yours.
Recently Filed — shows potential threat marks filed within the last seven days.
Last 20 Journals — shows trademarks published across the last 20 trademark journals.
Same Class — filters results to show threat marks in the same trademark class as yours.
Diff. Class — filters results to show threat marks in a different trademark class.
You can combine these filters to narrow down results. For example, selecting Keyword and Same Class together shows keyword-similar marks within your own class only.
Understanding the Results Table
Each row in the Protect section represents a potential threat mark. The table displays the following columns:
My Image — your trademark image
My Class — your trademark class
My Mark — your trademark name
Threat Mark — the name of the potentially conflicting trademark
Similarity — the percentage similarity score between your mark and the threat mark
Threat Image — the image of the threat mark
Threat Class — the class of the threat mark
Threat Prop. Name — the proprietor name of the threat mark
Threat Status — the current status of the threat mark (e.g. Send To Vienna Codification, Formalities Chk Pass)
Threat DOA — the date of application of the threat mark
Actions — options to act on the threat mark
Actions on a Threat Mark
For each threat mark in the list, you can:
Click Send To Vienna Codification to send the mark for Vienna codification review.
Click the refresh icon to update the status of that mark.
Click the + icon to add the mark to your tracking list or take further action.
Mark Comparison
To compare your trademark against a specific threat mark in detail, click on any row in the results table. A Mark Comparison panel opens on the right side showing a side-by-side comparison of your mark and the threat mark.
The comparison includes:
Image — visual comparison of both marks
App. Num — application numbers for both marks
Mark — the mark names
Status — current status of each mark
Class — trademark class
Prop. Name — proprietor names and entity types
Prop. Address — registered addresses
State and Country — jurisdiction details
Date of Application — filing dates
Publication Date — journal publication dates
Renewal Date — renewal dates if applicable
Email ID — contact email for each mark
Agent Name and Agent Code — agent details for each mark
This gives you a comprehensive view of both marks in one place, making it easier to assess the level of conflict and decide on next steps.
Explore With Codex
Click the Explore With Codex button in the top-right corner of the Protect section to open Codex with your current filtered set of threat marks as context. You can then ask AI-powered questions about the threats, generate analysis, or draft response strategies directly within Codex.
