Overview

The Docs section in the Litigation Management Tool allows you to edit Word documents directly within the platform using the built-in OnlyOffice editor. You can make edits, track changes, collaborate with your team, and send notifications without leaving the platform. Only Word (.doc or .docx) files can be edited.

How to Open the Document Editor

  1. Go to the Docs tab on the Case Details page.

  2. Locate the Word document you want to edit.

  3. Click the Edit Document icon next to the document. The document will open in the OnlyOffice editor.

Note: The editor opens in Track Changes mode by default, meaning all edits are recorded and can be accepted or rejected.

The OnlyOffice Editor

The document opens in a full OnlyOffice interface with the case name displayed in the title bar. The toolbar is organised into the following tabs:

Home — Standard text formatting options including font, size, bold, italic, underline, alignment, and lists.

Insert — Add tables, images, hyperlinks, headers, footers, and other elements to the document.

Draw — Draw directly on the document.

Layout — Page setup, margins, orientation, and spacing.

References — Add footnotes, endnotes, and table of contents.

Collaboration — Key tools for document review and team editing:

  • Co-editing Mode — set how edits are shared in real time

  • Add Comment — add inline comments to specific text

  • Delete / Resolve — manage existing comments

  • Track Changes — enable or disable change tracking

  • Display Mode — control how tracked changes are shown

  • Previous / Next — navigate between tracked changes

  • Accept / Reject — approve or discard individual changes

  • Compare / Combine — compare or merge document versions

  • Chat — chat with collaborators within the editor

  • Version History — view and restore previous versions of the document

  • Mail Merge — merge data into the document

Protection — Set document permissions and restrictions.

View — Adjust the document view and zoom level.

Plugins — Access additional editor plugins.

Notify

Click Notify in the right panel to send a notification about the document directly from within the editor. Fill in the following fields:

  • Recipients — select who should receive the notification

  • Subject — enter the subject line

  • Message — type your message

Click Send to dispatch the notification, or Cancel to close without sending.

Saving Your Work

Changes are saved automatically within the platform. There is no need to download the document to preserve your edits.

Download and Export

To share or keep a copy of the edited document outside the platform, click the Download option from the toolbar to export it in Word format.

Supported File Format

  • Word Documents Only: The editor currently supports only Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file formats. Ensure your documents are in this format to utilise the editing features within LMT.

Troubleshooting

  • Unsupported File Error — only Word (.doc or .docx) files can be edited. If you attempt to edit a file in another format, the system will display an error message.

  • Slow Performance — large documents with complex formatting such as tables or images may take a few moments to load. Allow the editor time to display the document fully.

Conclusion

The built-in OnlyOffice editor in the Litigation Management Tool gives your team a complete document editing experience without switching between platforms. With Track Changes enabled by default and the ability to notify teammates directly from the editor, all document work stays within your case workflow.
