Overview
The document section in the Legal Management Tool (LMT) provides users with a powerful and intuitive editor to view and modify documents directly within the platform. This feature supports only Word files, offering a seamless integration that mirrors the familiar Microsoft Word interface. Below is a detailed guide on how this feature works and how to make the most of it.
Supported File Format
Word Documents Only: The editor currently supports only Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) file formats. Ensure your documents are in this format to utilize the editing features within LMT.
Microsoft Word-like Interface
Once you open a Word file in the LMT, you will be presented with a complete Microsoft Word view. This interface replicates the key functionalities of Microsoft Word, making it easy to navigate and use for anyone familiar with the desktop version. You can perform all standard editing tasks, such as:
Text Formatting: Bold, italicize, underline, change font size, or modify text color.
Paragraph Alignment: Align your text left, right, center, or justify.
Bullet Points & Numbering: Add or edit lists to organize content better.
Insert Tables and Images: Use the editor’s toolbar to add tables, images, and other media to your document.
How to Use the Document Editor
Opening a Document: Navigate to the 'Documents' section within the case or matter you're working on. Click on the ‘Edit Document’ button adjacent to the document you wish to edit, ensuring it is in Word format.
Editing: The document will open in the Microsoft Word-style editor. You can now begin editing the text, making revisions, adding comments, and applying formatting changes as needed.
Finalizing Changes: Once you have made the necessary changes, a popup will appear on the screen with two options: 'Accept' or 'Reject'.
If you are satisfied with the edits, click 'Accept' to confirm the changes and finalize the document.
If you want to discard the changes, select 'Reject', and your edits will not be saved.
Saving Your Work: After accepting the changes, the system will automatically save them within the platform. There is no need to download the document separately to save your changes—everything is securely stored in LMT.
Download and Export: If you need to share or keep a copy of the edited document outside of LMT, you can download it in Word format by clicking the 'Download' option from the toolbar.
Troubleshooting:
Unsupported File Error: If you try to open a file that is not in Word format, the system will display an error message. Ensure that the document is a Word file (.doc or .docx) before attempting to edit it.
Slow Performance: If the document is large or contains complex formatting (such as tables, images, or many pages), it may take a few moments to load fully. Allow the editor time to display the document properly.
By using the document editor in LMT, you can efficiently manage your legal documents without needing external tools, maintaining full control over formatting and content while ensuring that your work is saved securely within the platform.
